Prosecutors questioned retired cardinal Godfried Danneels for a full day Tuesday about his failure to report to the police cases of sexual abuse involving children, further heightening tension between public authorities and church leaders in Belgium, a traditional Catholic stronghold.

Cardinal Danneels, long a revered figure here and a onetime candidate for the papacy, is now squarely in the spotlight of a case that is creating a growing headache for the Vatican.

The Catholic Church child abuse scandal in Belgium just got a whole lot worse. Belgian newspaper Het Laaste Niews is reporting that when authorities searched the home of the former archbishop of Brussels, Cardinal Godfried Danneels, they discovered a hidden cache of documents and photographs on notorious child sex killer Marc Dutroux — documents that Danneels was not supposed to have.

It has also emerged that documents relating to the child sex killer Marc Dutroux were also recovered during the raids.

The Catholic Church abuse scandal in Germany moved closer to the Vatican today with claims of violence against both boys and girls committed by a friend and ally of Pope Benedict XVI.

The Vatican reacted just as it had at the height of the crisis in late March -- by closing ranks. The Holy See sharply criticized the Belgian authorities and immediately summoned the Belgian ambassador.

Police investigating claims of child abuse by Belgian clergy have told the BBC they are probing death threats against witnesses and magistrates.

Some of his victims left the court at times today while Denham was being sentenced.

Afterwards, one of them said the abuse was well-known among students at his school. He said when the former priest walked past them, they would say, "Denham's on the crawl".

He said there were probably other victims who had not come forward.

The Methodist Church today voted to boycott all products from Israeli settlements in Palestinian territories becoming the first major Christian denomination in Britain to officially adopt such a policy.

The decision was made at the church’s Conference in Portsmouth, an annual gathering which decides Methodist policy. The official stance of the church, the fourth largest Christian denomination in Britain, will be to boycott any products made on Jewish settlements on the West Bank. Lay Methodists will also be encouraged to follow the church’s lead.

Canada's highest-ranking Catholic doesn't deserve a rumoured promotion to the Vatican because of the way he's handled the church sex-abuse scandal, a victims' group said Monday.

France Bédard, the group's founder, said Cardinal Marc Ouellet repeatedly refused to apologize for crimes committed within the church, and for the hundreds of lives destroyed.

Sex abuse victims came to Buffalo Friday demanding that the diocese remove a man they call a pedophile priest.

Activists tracked down a Catholic priest to western New York that they suspect has sexually molested children in the past, and demanded action by the Diocese of Buffalo to expose him.

The Vatican summoned the Belgian ambassador to the Holy See to convey its anger over the raids, which also included the home and offices of the retired archbishop of Belgium. The ambassador was called in for a meeting with the Vatican's foreign minister.

A St. Louis priest caught in an online sex sting last summer was sentenced Thursday to 80 months in federal prison.

The Rev. James P. Grady, 59, was the pastor of St. Raphael the Archangel Church in south St. Louis at the time. He was arrested July 29 at a St. Louis County home being used by undercover police and FBI agents after responding to an online ad.

Belgian authorities have raided the headquarters of the Belgian Catholic Church during an investigation into child sex abuse claims.

On Monday, Raul Gonzalez filed suit in Connecticut against the estate of his father, Roman Catholic priest Marcial Maciel Degollado, founder of the Legionaries of Christ. Gonzalez claims that his father sexually abused him -- along with many other boys -- and while the Vatican was not named a defendant, the lawsuit said that "from at least the 1950s until 2002, the Legionaries, Fr. Maciel, the presiding Pope, the Vatican, and its officials engaged in a conspiracy to conceal their knowledge of Maciel's abuse of children."

VATICAN investigators to Ireland appointed by Pope Benedict XVI are to clamp down on liberal secular opinion in an intensive drive to re-impose traditional respect for clergy, according to informed sources in the Catholic Church.

The nine-member team led by two cardinals will be instructed by the Vatican to restore a traditional sense of reverence among ordinary Catholics for their priests, the Irish Independent has learned.

ITALIAN prosecutors are investigating the Vatican bank on suspicion of involvement in money laundering, La Repubblica daily reported on Tuesday.

The Rev. Charles Scicluna, a Maltese priest who is a top official at the Vatican's morality office, led a special "make amends" prayer service in St. Peter's Basilica.

Nobody does that better than John Hagee, Pastor of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas. Last Sunday, Hagee addressed the second annual ‘Christian’s United For Israel’ event that drew fellow psychopaths from all 50 states and 50 nations around the globe. Hagee spewed the same lies and hateful rhetoric that he’s been propagating for decades.

Deepening the sexual abuse crisis in the Roman Catholic Church in Germany, a special investigator released a report yesterday saying that 205 former students said they had been abused in Jesuit schools, including at the prestigious Canisius-Kolleg in Berlin.

The investigator, Ursula Raue, said the actual number could be higher.
