THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!

"This use of the government of all for the enrichment and aggrandizement of few is a revolution.... These sovereign powers ... have been given by you and me, all of us, to our government to be used only for the common and equal benefit. Given by all to be used by all, it is a revolution to have made them the perquisite of a few."-- Henry Demarest Lloyd. 1890s

Exhibit seeks to reshape view of Muslim heritage with history of advances

The show seeks to be strictly academic, and shuns political or religious pronouncements. But the robust response of many young Muslims suggests a thirst for cultural pride against a contemporary backdrop of conflict and suspicion between the West and Muslim countries.

“Originally, it was aimed at the Western public,’’ said Salim Al-Hassani, organizer of the British exhibition and an emeritus professor of mechanical engineering at Manchester University. “But we found that when people from the Muslim world, when they see it, they get fired up, especially the young people who are in search of identity.’’

The U.S. Path to Collapse

Christina Romer, outgoing Chairwoman of Obama's Council of Economic Advisers, today called for more government spending and less taxes as a way to bring down unemployment. The combination of more government spending and less taxes equals massive inflation, but this represents the state of mind in Washington today. Inflation is still the last thing on their minds because they don't see it yet.

Rising gold and silver prices indicate that the U.S. is headed for an explosion in budget deficits that will rise far beyond what it can pay for through borrowing. Leading Chinese economists are now calling Japanese debt less risky than U.S. debt and with the Japanese savings rate in decline, the U.S. will soon have nobody left to borrow from. The only option will be monetization and already the Federal Reserve is getting ready to buy $10 billion to $30 billion per month in U.S. treasuries to keep its balance sheet at inflated levels.

Two Non-GMO farming innovations that show great promise

Michael Edwards & Jeffrey Green
Activist Post

By all honest accounts, 2010 has been a terrible year for traditional agriculture worldwide. Extended severe weather events have cut many crop harvests in half. Farmers are going bankrupt as crops fail, commodity prices are exploding, and millions of people more have been added to the list of those who go hungry on a regular basis. Already a record 40 million Americans are receiving food stamps at a time when economy is a disaster and state and Federal governments are essentially bankrupt.

Point the Finger: Congress Destroyed Banking

By Kenneth Dean Troxel (kdtroxel)

“We hang the petty thieves and appoint the great ones to public office.” --Aesop (~550 BC)

Is there a group of people who you can point your finger and say with defined outrage, that they are the ones responsible for the economic depression we are in now? The answer is, yes. The answer is our own federal government and one law in particular. ‘Gramm – Leach – Bliley Act of 1999’ did many things, it gutted one very important depression era banking act, it amended the Banking Act of 1933 (Glass-Steagall Act) which forbid banking institutions from issuing, speculating, and trading securities. Trading in securities is gambling in the sense that you are risking on an outcome with the investment of an asset or currency. When banks lose on their bad bets, such as valuation loss on created securities or stock declines, then the bank looses its minimum liquidity requirements and must be bailed out by the FDIC. From February 2007 to August 2010, there have been 292 bank failures requiring FDIC bailout to an accumulated tune of $69.5 billion dollars.

The Marijuana Conspiracy: The Reason Hemp Is Illegal

They say marijuana is dangerous. Pot is not harmful to the human body or mind. Marijuana does not pose a threat to the general public. Marijuana is very much a danger to the oil companies, alcohol, tobacco industries and a large number of chemical corporations. Big businesses, with plenty of dollars and influence, have suppressed the truth from the people. The truth is, if marijuana was utilized for its vast array of commercial products, it would create an industrial atomic bomb! The super rich have conspired to spread misinformation about the plant that, if used properly, would ruin their companies.

1) All schoolbooks were made from hemp or flax paper until the 1880s. (Jack Frazier. Hemp Paper Reconsidered. 1974.)

2) It was legal to pay taxes with hemp in America from 1631 until the early 1800s. (LA Times. Aug. 12, 1981.)

3) Refusing to grow hemp in America during the 17th and 18th centuries was against the law! You could be jailed in Virginia for refusing to grow hemp from 1763 to 1769 (G. M. Herdon. Hemp in Colonial Virginia).

4) George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and other founding fathers grew hemp. (Washington and Jefferson Diaries. Jefferson smuggled hemp seeds from China to France then to America.)

5) Benjamin Franklin owned one of the first paper mills in America, and it processed hemp. Also, the War of 1812 was fought over hemp. Napoleon wanted to cut off Moscow’s export to England. (Jack Herer. Emperor Wears No Clothes.)

6) For thousands of years, 90% of all ships’ sails and rope were made from hemp. The word ‘canvas’ is Dutch for cannabis. (Webster’s New World Dictionary.)

7) 80% of all textiles, fabrics, clothes, linen, drapes, bed sheets, etc.,were made from hemp until the 1820s, with the introduction of the cotton gin.

8) The first Bibles, maps, charts, Betsy Ross’s flag, the first drafts of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were made from hemp. (U.S. Government Archives.)

9) The first crop grown in many states was hemp. 1850 was a peak year for Kentucky producing 40,000 tons.Hemp was the largest cash crop until the 20th century. (State Archives.)

10) Oldest known records of hemp farming go back 5000 years in China, although hemp industrialization probably goes back to ancient Egypt.

11) Rembrandt’s, Van Gogh’s, Gainsborough’s, as well as most early canvas paintings, were principally painted on hemp linen.

12) In 1916, the U.S. Government predicted that by the 1940s all paper would come from hemp and that no more trees need to be cut down. Government studies report that 1 acre of hemp equals 4.1 acres of trees. Plans were in the works to implement such programs. (U.S. Department of Agriculture Archives.)

13) Quality paints and varnishes were made from hemp seed oil until 1937. 58,000 tons of hemp seeds were used in America for paint products in 1935. (Sherman Williams Paint Co. testimony before the U.S.Congress against the 1937 Marijuana Tax Act.)

14) Henry Ford’s first Model-T was built to run on hemp gasoline and the car itself was constructed from hemp! On his large estate, Ford was photographed among his hemp fields. The car, ‘grown from the soil,’ had hemp plastic panels whose impact strength was 10 times stronger than steel. (Popular Mechanics, 1941.)

15) In 1938, hemp was called ‘Billion Dollar Crop.’ It was the first time a cash crop had a business potential to exceed a billion dollars. (Popular Mechanics, Feb. 1938.)

16) Mechanical Engineering Magazine (Feb. 1938) published an article entitled ‘The Most Profitable and Desirable Crop that Can be Grown.’ It stated that if hemp was cultivated using 20th century technology, it would be the single largest agricultural crop in the U.S. and the rest of the world.

Dr. Lawrence Davidson: Victory in Iraq??

Dr. Lawrence Davidson
We invaded a country and overthrew its dictator. Americans might take pride in that accomplishment if it were not for the fact that we did so on false pretenses. In other words, we initiated war on the basis of lies rather than actual self-defense. Such an action constitutes the most serious of international crimes. It is the one for which the Nazi leaders were tried at Nuremberg.

BP Gulf Oil Spill's Walking Dead

Millions exposed to uncontrolled hemorrhaging, lesions, cancers

Recently, frustrated scientists presented evidence that millions of Gulf area residents were poisoned by the BP Gulf disaster. Worse, they believe that millions more could be exposed to long term poisoning.

Yet other than those worried scientists few seemed to care.

Now more frightening evidence has emerged: areas of the Gulf Coast may have been saturated with high levels of benzene, hydrogen sulfide and radioactive hydrocarbon effluents--three deadly substances that can cause disease and death years after the initial exposures.

----Addendum----

"Benzene and Other Toxic Solvents and Chemicals" - Benzene is a known human carcinogen. Work-related exposure to benzene has been linked to the development of blood cancers and blood disorders. Examples of blood diseases that may be caused by occupational benzene exposure include acute myelogenous leukemia, chronic myelogenous leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome (which can progress into acute myelogenous leukemia over time), aplastic anemia, acute lymphocytic leukemia, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and multiple myeloma. Certain other toxic solvents and chemicals may also be a cause of blood cancers and disorders. Link: http://www.leukemiainfocenter.com/Benzene_Toxicity.html

BP releases benzene in Texas too For 40 days, flares burned 500,000 pounds of toxic chemicals over BP's Texas City refinery. Yet residents didn't know until weeks later that the flare released 17,000 pounds of cancer-causing benzene. Link: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/business/7159288.html

Radioactivity exposure: air, water, food supply
“Radioactive Hydrocarbon Effluent ...from oil and which possesses higher levels of radium isotopes. The deeper the petroleum reserves, the more likely the reservoirs of oil and methane in those geological formations will contain uranium, thorium or radium. Given the elevated levels of radioactivity at the source, the level of radioactivity associated with the hydrocarbon effluent coming out of the well will inevitably be impacted. Radium isotopes have inherent health risks that ought to be identified and properly disseminated. The concerned resident of the Gulf Coast may want to initiate him/herself in the area of health impacts due to long-term exposure to low grade radioactivity. Of course, the seafood, the waters and the beaches all provide different vehicles for such contamination to take place, each with varying consequences.'

Vaccines May Help Prevent Egg Recalls

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Low-cost vaccines that may help prevent the kind of salmonella outbreak that has led to the recall of more than a half-billion eggs haven't been given to nearly half the nation's egg-laying hens.

The vaccines aren't required in the U.S., although in Great Britain, officials say vaccinations have given them the safest egg supply in Europe. A survey conducted by the European food safety agency in 2009 found about 1 percent of British flocks had salmonella compared to about 60 to 70 percent of flocks elsewhere in Europe, said Amanda Cryer, spokeswoman for the British Egg Information Service.

Since Britain's vaccinations began, the only salmonella outbreaks in eggs have been linked to those imported from elsewhere in the European Union, Cryer said. Overall salmonella cases in the country dropped by half within three years.

BP Gulf Oil Spill Seafloor Fractured So Bad Oil May Leak For Years Even If Relief Well Succeeds

Since the blowout BP has stonewalled congress about the integrity of the well and cracks in sea floor.

Immediately after BP capped the well the pressure was far short of target BP and the Government set for an “intact well” and as time passed the pressure still failed to rise significantly indicating the well integrity test failed.

Soon afterward the ROV’s spotted a new leak on the BOP.

The feds then ignored the warning signs, which included multiple leaks on the BOP and the sea bed. and allowed the well to remain shut in even though it risked an uncontrolled underground blowout and came up with a fantasy story about well depletion being the cause of the low pressure in the well.

Then came the news that 40 feet of the relief well collapsed followed by the discovery of a new methane leak found coming from the base of the BOP just inches from the well.

The government then allowed BP to fill the well with mud during the static kill operation and declared that the well was dead even though the well continued to leak.

As the well continued to leak the Government then gave BP the authorization to fill the production casing with cement even though there was a risk that the cement would not cure properly because of the leaks.

That was followed by an increase of oil and methane hydrate leaks popping up all over the sea floor after which BP started filtering the video feeds to hide the leaks.

Then 48 hours after cementing the well the leaks coming from the sea floor continued and became worse as BP started to degrade the quality of the video feeds and was caught once again filtering the video to hide oil and methane leaks from the cracks on the sea floor.

Then oil industry experts came forward and declared that the entire static kill operation failed and has made it even harder for BP to seal the well.

Finally, almost out of the blue, BP lowered a tool to the well flush it of hydrocarbons in a test that was supposed to run for 48 hours but for some unexplained reason was interrupted last light.

That leads us up to today when the federal government has postponed the relief wells until September while admitting that a collapse in the rock formation and not the cement it pumped into the well may be preventing the flow of oil.

Meanwhile the leaks on the sea floor continue and we have even seen a massive tornado form on the sea floor and a crater that was apparently created from it.

All of these events combined with BK Lim’s analysis and Dr. Bea’s revelations tell us that we have some massive fractures on the sea floor that are leaking all over the place and while the BP and the Feds have declared mission accomplished in reality this is far from over.

More evidence links pesticides to hyperactivity

A growing body of evidence is suggesting that exposure to organophosphate pesticides is a prime cause of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, ADHD. The findings are considered plausible to many experts because the pesticides are designed to attack the nervous systems of insects. It is not surprising, then, that they should also impinge on the nervous systems of humans who are exposed to them.

Forty organophosphate pesticides are registered in the United States, with at least 73 million pounds used each year in agricultural and residential settings.

ADHD is thought to affect 3% to 7% of American children, with boys affected more heavily than girls. Many experts believe its incidence has increase sharply in recent decades, but critics attribute the increased incidence to over-diagnosis. Some attribute the increase to the greater use of pesticides.

The Master thought about this, then replied, “Ten years . .” ?The student then said, “But what if I work very, very hard and really apply myself to learn fast — How long then?” Replied the Master, “Well, twenty years.” “But, if I really, really work at it, how long then?” asked the student. “Thirty years,” replied the Master. “But, I do not understand,” said the disappointed student. “At each time that I say I will work harder, you say it will take me longer. Why do you say that?” ?Replied the Master, “When you have one eye on the goal, you only have one eye on the path.”

Somethin’ Funny’s Goin’ On

The Manta.com website includes a database of over 63 million US and foreign companies. That database info is provided by Dunn & Bradstreet (D&B). Manta.com will provide preliminary information on each of these millions of companies for free. If you want more “in-depth” info, there’s a fee.

For example, if you type “Government of the United States” into the Manta.com search engine, you’ll be whisked to a list of “7,666 matching US companies”.

The first “company” on the list is:

“Government of the United States (US Government) HQ

“the u.s. Capitol Washington DC”

The “HQ” stands for “headquarters”.

None of that seems particularly surprising (other than the idea that our “Government” might be a “company” and/or a conglomerate of “companies”). But the Manta.com report does begin to seem a little strange under the heading “About Government Of The United States” where we read:

“government, owner archbishop deric r. mccloud of basilica shrine michigan and 4th ne street washington,dc”.

The College Loan Bubble is the next one to pop!

Yesterday, the Wall Street Journal published an article that stated that “Americans now owe more on their student loans ($830B) than their credit cards ($827B)… He estimates that $300 billion in federal student loan debts have been incurred in the last four years.”

What?! $300B of the $830B came in the last 4 years?! At this rate, we’ll break 1 trillion in no time. To put this in perspective, the US economy is burdened with $4 trillion of excess mortgage debt, which is equivalent to 30% of GDP

Webmaster's Commentary:

These students accepted that debt to obtain a college degree they were assured would mean higher salaries with which to pay off their student loans. However, even now graduates are discovering that those high paying jobs were a phantom; a come-on to lure them into the clutches of the credit companies. College kids are graduating, loaded down with debt right from the start, into a nation whose high paying jobs have been siphoned off to other shores, thanks to tax incentives by the Federal Government. Those new graduates cannot pay their loans off working at McDonald's or WalMart, so eventually those student loan companies will collapse and demand (and get) a taxpayer bailout.

No, I’m not talking about the Qur’an, not even the Bible, I’m talking about the Talmud. That’s right, Dr. Terry Jones of the Dove World Outrage Center agreed publicly this weekend to toss in a couple of copies of the Talmud into the fire when he, showing his Christian love, will also be burning copies of the Quran. Please join him, and I hope, Michael Collins Piper, on Sept. 11th for this occasion and be aware that this is a BYOT event. For Shas Party members – BYOT means “Bring you own Talmud” and please be ready to toss it into the fire.

Renaissance 2.0: Lesson 6 (part 1 - 3) - Brightening the Future;

Renaissance 2.0: Lesson 6 (part 1-3) - Brightening the Future: Introduces the concept of the monetary vortex, how it's driven by debt, how it controls everything in our system, including inflation and deflation. It also covers the role derivatives play and addresses how sovereign money breaks the power of the vortex.

Renaissance 2.0: Lesson 1 - 5: Revisiting American History; Revisiting Economics 101; Revisiting Civics 101; The Culture of Empire; The Emerging Global Empire

Renaissance 2.0: Lesson 1 - Revisiting American History - Financial
Empire: Documents the conversion of the US into a monolithic financial empire as the Federal Reserve Act created a monopolized cartel of private interests, "Wall Street," that controls all money in the system. This killed Jeffersonian ideals and allowed vertical Hamiltonian forces to have free reign to consolidate power and wealth. It explains how this is an empire system where the top Wall Street banks are analogous to feudal lords and multi-national corporations are their feudal knights out conquering territories. It rewrites American History books.

Renaissance 2.0: Lesson 2 - Revisiting Economics 101 - Debt: Imperial Power and Control discusses the power of debt-based money, emboded in the bond market, and its ability to exert total top-down power and control over the empire. You will learn how our system is not a free market and how neoclassical economics misses so many key points.

Renaissance 2.0: Lesson 3 - Revisiting Civics 101 - Ownership: Revisiting Civics 101 describes how the media projects a false picture in terms of who controls the US. This lesson illustrates the real power structure, which is modeled after the corporate governance system. It typically uses Ivy Leaguers to fill its ranks and it exercises ownership rights over the country to some degree.

Renaissance 2.0: Lesson 4 - The Culture of Empire: Moves into a deeper dialogue about the empire system we're caught in. Part 1 addresses our wealth illusion, freedom illusion, exponential growth, inflation/deflation, and bankruptcies.

Renaissance 2.0: Lesson 5 - The Emerging Global Empire: Explains the strategic global transition we're currently living through. It provides the correct strategic perspective, thereby replacing false ones like the left vs. right paradigm, to help interpret the overwhelming flow of information we get from the media.

Predatory Capitalism: When Corporations Go Unregulated

Unregulated profit-seeking corporations cannot be trusted to protect the Public, because their main objective is to make profits, not to be a do-gooder for the Public. Whenever profit-making conflicts with the Public interest, profit-making wins! Thus they become Predators on the Public, not Protectors of the Public.

This is not a radical idea, but an obvious fact, if you think about it. Profit-seeking corporations exist to make a profit, and the more profit, the better. Anything which increases profits is good for them; and anything which decreases profits is bad. So they try to do whatever is necessary to make profits. This is the essence of Laissez-faire Capitalism: that profit-seeking corporations should be left alone to do whatever they choose to do in order to make profits.

Digital Education vs. the Ruling Elite

Ruling elites as recently as 1600 appealed to God to justify their continuing rule. This was called the divine right of kings: rulership beyond any earthly court of appeal. That began to be undermined in the second half of the seventeenth century. A century later, Enlightenment democratic theory had replaced the divine right of kings. The divine right of Parliament or the divine right of the People replaced it.

This forced a major strategic change on the ruling elite. The ruling elite has to pretend that it does not exist. It formally acknowledged the legitimacy of the People as the final court of appeal. This involved training and screening the judges.

Exotic Deals Put Denver Schools Deeper in Debt

In 2008, the Denver public school system needed to plug a $400 million hole in its pension fund. Bankers at JPMorgan Chase offered what seemed to be a perfect solution, claiming that the school system could raise $750 million in an exotic transaction that would eliminate the pension gap and save tens of millions of dollars annually in debt costs.

Since it struck the deal, the school system has paid $115 million in interest and other fees, at least $25 million more than it originally anticipated. To avoid mounting expenses, the Denver schools are looking to renegotiate the deal. But to unwind it all, the schools would have to pay the banks $81 million in termination fees, or about 19 percent of its $420 million payroll.

The E-cigarette vs. the FDA

I suppose I don't really have to give you or anyone else a refresher on how government ruins everything for the free market. Whether it be through blatant government greed, or simple red-tape bureaucratic ineptness.
There is a new product on the market that is starting to gain some serious momentum. Well more accurately, as much momentum as the FDA will allow it to get I guess. It's moved from pennys and nickels to a $100 million dollar industry in roughly 12-months.

Quick note from MG:
If you smoke, you need to switch to eciggs right now. I switched a year ago and all side effects of smoking (wheezing, shortness of breath, coughing, smelly clothes etc.)have disappeared.
What is more, I have saved $360.00/month (two pack a day smoker) for a total saved of $4,320.00.

States slash pre-K programs as budgets bleed

States are cutting hundreds of millions from their prekindergarten budgets, undermining years of working to help young children — particularly poor kids — get ready for school.

States are slashing nearly $350 million from their pre-K programs by next year and more cuts are likely on the horizon once federal stimulus money dries up, according to the National Institute for Early Education Research at Rutgers University. The reductions mean fewer slots for children, teacher layoffs and even fewer services for needy families who can't afford high-quality private preschool programs.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Our educational and physical infrastructure is crumbling, the economy's in meltdown, and we've got two miserably failing wars on our hands; yet, somehow, our country's leadership always finds a way to hand billions to Israel, which is illegal, under the Symington Amendment!

Studies Prove that These Drugs Make Your Brain Stop Working…

By Dr. Mercola

Drugs commonly taken for a variety of common medical conditions negatively affect your brain, causing long term cognitive impairment. These drugs, called anticholinergics, block acetylcholine, a nervous system neurotransmitter.

They include such common over-the-counter brands as Benadryl, Dramamine, Excedrin PM, Nytol, Sominex, Tylenol PM, and Unisom. Other anticholinergic drugs, such as Paxil, Detrol, Demerol and Elavil are available only by prescription.

"Researchers ... conducted a six-year observational study, evaluating 1,652 Indianapolis area African-Americans over the age of 70 who had normal cognitive function when the study began ... '[T]aking one anticholinergic significantly increased an individual's risk of developing mild cognitive impairment and taking two of these drugs doubled this risk.'"

Israel Classifies its Past as Top Secret

In the interim things have only gotten worse for the Zionist defenders of the idealized Israel. Multiple invasions of Lebanon and the essentially defenseless Palestinian cities and towns, the slaughter of the innocent, the reduction of Gaza to an open air prison, the on-going confiscation of land and property in the Occupied Territories, rampant settler violence, and the repeated election of racist governments have resulted in a worldwide civil society effort to isolate Israel and induce it to reform itself in the same manner as South Africa.

JAMES PETRAS: Trends to Barbarism and Prospects for Socialism

The Rising Tide of Barbarism

Introduction

Western societies and states are moving inexorably toward conditions resembling barbarism; structural changes are reversing decades of social welfare and subjecting labor, natural resources and the wealth of nations to raw exploitation, pillage and plunder, driving living standards downward and provoking unprecedented levels of discontent.

We will proceed by outlining the economic political and military processes driving this process of decay and decomposition and follow with an account of the mass popular responses to their own deteriorating conditions. The deep structural changes accompanying the rise of barbarism become the basis for considering the prospects for socialism in the 21st century.

Pennsylvania School District Accused of Spying on Students for Second Time

Jim Tate runs a computer and software store in Oklahoma City called Computer Nerdz. He said the software the school district installed in those laptops is a program that can be activated from a remote site in the event of a loss or theft.

"The software was designed to help the school district retrieve the laptop in the event that it was stolen from the student," Tate said.

But in Robbin's and Hassan's cases, the laptops were inside their homes and the web cams continued taking snap shots and screen grabs.

"I can understand why the parents would be absolutely outraged," said Jim Tate with Computer Nerdz.

One of the striking controversies about the massive BP Deepwater Horizon oil well blowout has been alarm raised about chemical dispersants used to hold spilled crude oil deep in the Gulf of Mexico. The Creativity Crisis

Kyung Hee Kim at the College of William & Mary discovered this in May, after analyzing almost 300,000 Torrance scores of children and adults. Kim found creativity scores had been steadily rising, just like IQ scores, until 1990. Since then, creativity scores have consistently inched downward. “It’s very clear, and the decrease is very significant,” Kim says. It is the scores of younger children in America—from kindergarten through sixth grade—for whom the decline is “most serious.”

Am I Already Dead?

I teach physics in a secondary school; GCSE* (for 15-16 year olds) and Advanced Level(for 17-18 year olds). I've been doing this on and off for the last 39 years.

I have always been regarded by colleagues as a fairly effective teacher. My pupils normally achieve satisfactory or better grades.

When I first left teaching in the early 1980's I was a head of department. I found that I did not like the way things were shaping up with the Thatcher government. When Sir Keith Joseph suggested that voluntary extra-curricular activities (training a football team and taking them to a match on Saturdays, say) be written into teachers' contracts that was, for me, a final straw.

Schools run on good will. This is basic.

A New York Times profile last week described Courtney Munna, a 26-year-old graduate of New York University with nearly $100,000 in student loan debt -- debt that her degree in Religious and Women's Studies did not equip her to repay. Payments on the debt are about $700 per month, equivalent to a respectable house payment, and a major bite on her monthly income of $2,300 as a photographer's assistant earning an hourly wage.

Ex-teacher learns the hard way: Watch what you put online

"One thing I told my students is not to gloat, not to strike a hostile tone in their speeches," she wrote on prettyfreaky.blogspot.com. "Then, of course, I heard a speech that did both of those things."

Collins added that she felt "annoyance" because she disagreed with the politics of the speech and "dismay" that her message about the right tone was not getting through.

(Though she never said so on her blog, in an interview Collins said that the student had given a speech about "Obama's lies." She provided The Inquirer with copies of documents from the school and the family about the events leading to her firing, and her responses.)

Webmaster's Commentary:

A clear example of schools abandoning education to focus on political indoctrination. UNRWA ATTEMPTING TO BRAINWASH THE CHILDREN OF PALESTINE

Some circles within UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Work Agency, have been trying to introduce “the holocaust” into Palestinian school curricula in the Gaza Strip. In so doing, the organization is trying to appease certain Zionist-minded groups in North America, and to a lesser extent in Europe, which have been lambasting the UN body for “conditioning” the Palestinian school system to Arab ideological and political trends.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Even if one accepts the story of the holocaust (which given the vast number of lies by Israel this last week is looking ever more dubious), what does that have to do with the present day? Those children were not alive during WW2. Hell, I wasn't alive during WW2. US schools switching to 4-day weeks to save money amid sluggish economy

Many districts that have the shortened schedule say they've seen students who are less tired and more focused, which has helped raise test scores and attendance. But others say that not only did they not save a substantial amount of money by being off an extra day, they also saw students struggle because they weren't in class enough and didn't have enough contact with teachers.

Los Angeles Students to Be Taught That Arizona Immigration Law Is Un-American

The Los Angeles Unified School District school board wants all public school students in the city to be taught that Arizona's new immigration law is un-American.

The school board president made the announcement Tuesday night after the district's Board of Education passed a resolution to oppose the controversial law, which gives law enforcement officials in Arizona the power to question and detain people they suspect are in the U.S. illegally when they are stopped in relation to a crime or infraction.

“This is ridiculous, it’s ridiculous for us to be involved in Arizona law,” said Jane Barnett, Chairman, Los Angeles County Republican Party. “There is a 50 percent dropout rate in some parts of the school district—is this going to keep kids in school?”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Illegal immigration is a crime, period, end of discussion, under both Federal and state law.

This is not education; it is an attempt at indoctrination.

This is a perfect example of the degree of sloppy, distorted thinking which governs what kids are taught in public schools.

And rather than really tackle the appalling dropout rates and literacy deficits with which their kids are dealing, what does the School Board Do? They resolve to indoctrinate the kids in this school district with an absolute lie, as though this were magically going to make all the other problems disappear!

A Democratic plan to send $23 billion to the states to save the jobs of 100,000 to 300,000 public school teachers, librarians, counselors and other employees slated for layoffs looks dead for the time being.

Blame it on election-year politics. The anti-Washington, anti-spending mood has become so potent that even Democrats are antsy about helping teachers, one of their most long-standing and generous allies.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Teachers are going to find themselves more and more expendable to the Federal government.

In fact, that very cherished institution of free public education through high school in this country may well be completely privatized in the not too distant future, further widening the chasm between the prosperous and the very poor.

This will not be accidental; it will be design.

Senate approves $60 billion more for wars and aid — for just four months

The US Senate has passed a supplementary funding bill worth some 60 billion dollars to finance the conflict in Afghanistan and other key projects including aid to quake-hit Haiti.

The war in Afghanistan is expensive. According to a recent estimate, the US pays as much as $400 per gallon for gasoline in the landlocked nation when the cost of flying it in to fuel US vehicles is all accounted for. The cost of maintaining each US soldier in the theater, per year, is about $1 million.

“The American people deserve an answer to the question: How much longer?” Wisconsin Democrat Russ Feingold was quoted as saying. The funding bill “will add some $30 billion more to the almost $300 billion we’ve already spent in Afghanistan with no end in sight,” he said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

These wars without end will bankrupt this nation, and most probably sooner rather than later.

100,000 teachers nationwide face layoffs

Senior congressional Democrats and the Obama administration scrambled Wednesday to line up support for $23 billion in federal aid to avert an estimated 100,000 or more school layoffs in a brutal year for education budgets coast to coast.

As early as Thursday, the House Appropriations Committee expects to take up a bill that couples the school funding with spending for the Afghanistan war -- a measure that has bipartisan support. But a parallel push in the Senate stalled this week after a leading proponent concluded that he couldn't muster enough votes to surmount Republican opposition.

Webmaster's Commentary:

All the public money has been diverted to wars and more wars and weapons.

We may be seeing the beginning of the end of public education, and its complete privatization in the not too distant future.

Subprime Goes to College: $300 Billion in Defaults Coming

Eisman’s theme was “Subprime goes to College.” After what transpired in the subprime mortgage market a few years ago, Eisman thought he would never see a business with the capability to prey upon the underprivileged to those extremes again. Then he came across the For Profit Education industry. Despite only having 10% of the students these schools get 25% of the government aid. The industry is in bed with Washington due to serious lobbying efforts and the back and forth of executives from the companies to Government positions and back. Title IV loans offered by government programs comprise 90% of for profit education revenues.

Mark Glenn : The Ugly Truth Interview with Antoine Raffoul

Mark Glenn true to his style, lays out for his listeners, at the very outset, in no uncertain terms, the price in dollars that Americans have been paying for the misdeeds of their “bestest ally” Israel, for the past 60 years and more. For those who find Mark’s commentary harsh, it rings of truth and that is all that matters today.

What Americans need to know and find out, first, is where their dollars are going; second, what those dollars are doing; third, if that is what they really want their dollars to do for their country. Nothing more. Nothing less. If they are able to link their dollars in Israel to American deaths/involvement in distant lands, perhaps when the time comes to vote, they will simply tick the right voting box. It is as simple and powerful as that.

Texas ready for textbook showdown

Other amendments to the state's curriculum standards for kindergarten through 12th grade would minimize Thomas Jefferson's role in world and U.S. history because he advocated the separation of church and state; require that students learn about "the unintended consequences" of affirmative action; assert that "the right to keep and bear arms" is an important element of a democratic society; and rename the slave trade to the "Atlantic triangular trade.”

(LONDON) - Talking about anti-Semitism, and the accusation of anti-Semitism, is to many people a very sensitive issue. Nevertheless, I feel the need to highlight some points: As a Palestinian and as a Muslim, with first hand experience of racism, whether here in UK or in occupied Palestine.

I do understand what it means to be subjugated to it; thus, I deeply empathise with those who suffer from the menace of racism and discrimination, those who are abused verbally, physically, emotionally, or otherwise for no other reason than the fact that they are “different”.

Jolly Rancher lands Fort Bend County third-grader in detention for a week

A third-grader at Brazos Elementary was given a week’s detention for possessing a Jolly Rancher.

School officials in western Fort Bend County are defending the seemingly harsh sentence. The school’s principal and superintendent said they were simply complying with a state law that limits junk food in schools.

But the girl’s parents say it’s a huge overreaction.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The so-called "educators" are snatching the candy, watching out for potential terrorists and even spying on kids in their own homes through school-issued laptops and in all the confusion actually teaching our kids something useful, the reason they collect our taxes in the first place, seems to have gotten lost!

Arizona Legislature Passes Bill to Curb 'Chauvanism' in Ethnic Studies Programs

After making national headlines for a new law on illegal immigrants, the Arizona Legislature sent Gov. Jan Brewer a bill Thursday that would ban ethnic studies programs in the state that critics say currently advocate separatism and racial preferences.
